How 2 Suck Less @ Running
Short Story, short.
I used to hate running. I even used to make fun of runners during my USA Cycling days back in high school.
Seriously. I thought it was the worst. It made everything hurt. It always felt boring. You couldn’t go as far as you could riding your bike. It was one of the last things I wanted to do. At one point in time, I even believed the myths that running made you weak and robbed you of your gains.
A few years ago I decided I wanted to set some new goals and chase new dreams and for the first time in my life that included running.
In the beginning, it wasn’t fun. It was frustrating, challenging, and to be honest, humbling. But, I slowly stuck with it. Month by month, year by year things started to change. Running wasn’t as terrible. I was getting excited to run. I was getting faster.
I started finding new trails, parks, and mountains to explore. It became not only exciting. It became addicting. In the healthiest way possible. Pretty soon, despite how much I had hated running earlier in my life, I found my new passion and sport. Flash forward a few years and now I’m running ultra marathons in the Grand Canyon for fun. Crazy right?
The biggest obstacle to enjoying running was feeling like I sucked at it. Which I did.
